Machine Learning Postdoc and High Performance ComputingAM-Applied Mathematics and Computational Research103557Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's (LBNL) Applied Mathematics and Computational Research Division has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the team.In this exciting role, you will conduct fundamental and applied research in the use of AI/ML for the generation and transpilation of accurate, distributed memory, high-performance computations on GPU-accelerated supercomputing platforms.What You Will Do:

  • Leverage AI/ML including existing large language models (LLMs) to generate (prompt-based) or transpile (source to source) distributed-memory, high-performance computations targeting GPU-accelerated supercomputing platforms.
  • Augment such technologies and techniques to maximize performance and scalability, maintain numerical properties, and enhance readability and maintainability.
  • Publish and present research results in high-impact journals and top conferences in the areas of machine learning and parallel computing.What is Required:
    • PhD degree, within the last 3 years, in Computer Science, Computational Sciences, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field.
    • Proficiency in C and/or C++ programming language.
    • Proficiency in one or more of the parallel libraries/languages such as MPI, OpenMP, CUDA.
    • Experience with one or more large language models (LLM).
    • Experience in one or more of the popular scripting languages such as Python.
    • Experience in optimization of HPC on multicore or GPU-accelerated architectures.
    • Ability to publish in top journals and conferences.
    • Ability to conduct research in a highly collaborative environment.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Desired Qualifications:

        • This is a full-time, 2 years, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years of paid postdoctoral experience.
        • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
        • The monthly salary range for this position is $8,321-$10,418 and is expected to start at $8,321 or above. Postdoctoral positions are paid on a step schedule per union contract and salaries will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates. Each step represents one full year of completed post-Ph.D. postdoctoral experience.
        • This position is subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
        • Work may be performed on-site, hybrid, or full-time telework. The primary location for this role is Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
