Oracle DBA

Job Description:

Major Healthcare Services client is looking for a lead Performance Oracle DBA, who will be working in a senior capacity as part of a team of DBAs. Working in collaboration with cross-functional teams to design, build, upgrade, modify and operationally administer new or existing Oracle databases in support of critical enterprise applications. Candidate will be working on a large scale multi-year project migrating from a legacy system to a state-of-the-art health care administration system.
 
This role can be staffed in either their El Dorado Hills office or at headquarter office at San Francisco. This starts as a 6 month conttract.
 
**Must be eligible to work on W2 without sponsorship**
 
Responsibilities:
* Acts as a oracle database performance subject matter expert, working with cross functional teams in building, scalable enterprise solutions.
* Establish and maintain performance baselines, troubleshoot performance issues and provide recommendations/fixes for identified issues.
* Provides architectural guidelines to build and maintain scalable multi-terabyte database environments.
* Will develop and distribute performance metric reports and dashboards highlighting the health of the database environments.
* Creates, supports and administers relational databases.
* Oversees administration and performs hands-on administration of databases, related tools, processes and operations in large oltp and batch environments.
* Recommends solutions that require definition of the physical structure and functional capabilities of databases and required data security and data backup/recovery specifications.
* Ensures proper design, implementation, performance, availability, security, auditing and capacity management of related database systems.
 
Knowledge/Skills and Experience:
Must have prior experience in and deep knowledge of the following:
* Practical experience in pro-active and reactive database performance tuning.
* Database capacity forecasting
* Administering large hybrid environments with OLTP and Batch processing loads.
* Oracle Database Architecture
* Performance tuning best practices
* Supporting multi terabyte Oracle databases on unix based systems, preferably AIX and Solaris
* Databases hosted on virtualized platforms (AIX LPARs, VMware)
* Excellent understanding and practical experience with Oracle performance views, OEM, ASM, backup and recovery concepts (RMAN) and operating system concepts.
*Well versed in reviewing AWR, ASH reports and 10046, 10053 trace files to identify potential performance problems.
* SQL statement tuning skills.
 
Desirable skills include:
* Experience with databases supporting three tier SOA/Web Services bases applications is highly desirable.
* Replication technologies including Oracle Logical and Physical Dataguard, Goldengate, Oracle Streams.
* Experience building and managing highly available Database environments using Oracle RAC or Symantec VCS.
* Recent experience installing, configuring and managing Oracle 11g and 12c environments.
* Ability to read and understand PL/SQL code and provide recommendations to developers is highly desirable.
* Good understanding of Database Design and Data Modeling concepts.
Good understanding and practical experience troubleshooting Oracle SQLNet connectivity and performance issues.
* Experience working with storage administrators in setting up storage sub-systems for optimal database performance is highly desirable.
* Unix shell scripting, perl scripting skills are highly desirable.
* Experience supporting system migration from legacy systems is highly desirable.
 
Other requirements:
* Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate technical concepts in an easy to understand form is essential.
* Operates under general direction. Assignments are very broad in nature and of the highest level of complexity. Ability to influence and have impact beyond own area of responsibility.
* May instruct, guide and oversee work of lower-level technical professionals.
* Consults and makes recommendations to management on significant issues.
* Responsible for developing and implementing new products and/or approaches in conjunction with implementing new/existing technologies.
* Knowledge encompasses entire scope of a technical discipline and has received recognition for development of one or more unique sub-specialties.
* Generally requires 8 to 12 years of directly related professional experience and possesses deep technical abilities in one or more primary products, programs or technologies.
* Experience working in a team which delivers a highly available environment supporting large project development efforts 24 x 7 onshore and offshore is desired. Familiarity with SDLC, Data Modeling, ITIL concepts and practices is required.
* Participation in On-Call Rotation is required
